When People Scam THEMSELVES
I have a buddy in real life. My buddy in real life is a really smart person. He is 32 years old. I am 26. Naturally, I look up to him in some respects, as he is my elder in years.
Today however, I wanted him castrated.
You see, my buddy thought it would be nifty to download some kinda editor for GuildWars, because some sod was in open chat spamming a URL for the program that would allow an idiot to do this kind of shameful practice. My buddy in real life downloaded, installed, and used the program. His account is now hijacked, and his password has been changed.
My buddy in real life has been offline for several days, so it comes to no surprise that, being that he was an active member of my guild, SOT, I thought I would check forum posts on my forums for why he was not around, since calling him is hard to accomplish. He posted a gigantic thread in there about what happened to him.
This means that, about 10 minutes ago, my showing that he was online 12 minutes ago means some other idiot was running around in the game world, perhaps doing things that give my guild a bad name. Joygasm!
Needless to say, I logged in, and purged my guild of all members. Safety before insanity.
My buddy in real life will now have to go buy a new copy of the game, if AN even lets his ip (is constant) access the game anymore.
People...If you cannot play a game without CHEATING, then do not WHINE about the fact that your l33t haxor appz destroyed your ability to play a game you spent hard earned cash on.

Yes he did. I, however, did not. Having some lunatic l33t fr3ak running around in the game, with my banner on their arse, proclaiming false bullshit. Now I have an army of one.
A positive note, I got to Kryta last night with henchies from day one. Something good to think about for me at least.
If you have a guild. KNOW THE PERSON INHALES. I do not know any other way to avoid such madness.

Account theft is a serious crime. Report it to ArenaNet. They may give him the account back if he could prove it's his and, hopefully, ban the scammer's account.

Wait wait wait wait, so he was the leader of of sot or are you? cause why not just kick his account out and that would take the hacker out.... but if the hacker is now the leader well um... your fudged.

SOT, please let your friend know that I am really sorry that this happened to him. Even though he did do something unwise, he most certainly did not deserve what happened.

It was a stupid move, he did it himself but still I feel sorry for him. Common sense should have taken over, but still, I can't help but merely feel bad for him rather than feel as though he deserved it, even though he did it to himself, I'd feel horrid if that happened to me, with, or without, attempted use of a cheating app.

let me get this straight... One person got their account hijacked so you kicked everbody out of your guild? Isn't that a little... extreme?

Didn't you name the guild??? lol...
kidding aside, if a letter to Anet can fix it so his IP is okay, then 40/50 whatever bucks so he can play again is a small price to pay for the lesson he (hopefully) learned.

Really Kitty is that necessary? Does it serve any constructive purpose?
I thought the point of the threads was to help each other.

In another forum where I spend a lot of time they have a reputation system in place. And I've noticed that people who start to get bad rep soon plummet to the border of bandom... It's habit to read the worst in something that you expect bad things from. Her comment may have been a bit harsh but I hope we can try to forget the recent firestorm (more flies with honey than vinegar). He did in fact deserve it, perhaps Kitty should have just found a bit more of an eloquent way to say it though. :/

Yes, it didn't really seem to add anything to this thread other than an insult...
Why must there be people to 'innocently' provoke the rest of us into flaming?
Back to topic at hand...
If ANet can actually do that, help the guy get his account back, like Loviator said, it'd be very fortunate for those who have stupidly had their accounts hacked by these keyloggers.

As a guild leader, do you not have the ability to kick individual members?

I feel no pity for a cheater whose cheat program backfired on them.
But I still condemn the thief who took the account.

Because it's fun watching adults get riled up. And it's a form of attention.

Hijacking in progress here....
Kitty, what does being a girl have to do with them laying off? If you say something that is seen as nasty, be prepared for the flames. Why should anyone here cut you some slack if you're female?
